Science

At Our Lady’s we are passionate about offering students opportunities in science both inside and outside the classroom. Each year our Science Department puts on a series of events for Science Week to promote the subject area. These activities include interactive quizzes, engineering challenges, guest speakers, careers in science videos, class challenges and competitions. Our TY girls visit the I WISH conference in Dublin each year which promotes female careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Our TYs have also entered various competitions such as the VEX build a robot competition held by DKIT in which we came out as overall winners.

A Young Scientist Module led by Mr. Nolan offers students in TY the opportunity to showcase their talents and projects on a national level. In 2020 we enjoyed great success when our school came first in the intermediate category of Physical and Mathematical Sciences with their project ‘ICY HOT’. In 2019 our TYs also had success led by Ms Higgins with their project “Absenteeism as a result of Type 1 Diabetes”. This year Daniel and Matthew represented our school in the Physical & Mathematical Science Intermediate section with their project “The Physics Behind Free Kicks”.
