Our Lady’s Secondary School is celebrating a remarkable achievement following our students' outstanding performance at the national finals of the Young Economist of the Year (YEOTY) competition, held in ATU Sligo on Wednesday, May 7th. This success is a testament to the vibrant learning culture at Lady’s Secondary School and a strong endorsement of student-led inquiry in economics and current affairs.

Ronan Ward, a Fifth Year student, was awarded a Gold Medal for his exceptional project, "To what extent does gender inequality affect women's opportunities and the economy?" Ronan’s in-depth analysis and thoughtful presentation captured the judges’ attention and demonstrated a mature understanding of a critical global issue. Silver was awarded to Transition Year student Cillian Gibbons for his insightful project "Can you spot the difference between the Zambian and Irish economies?" His comparative study highlighted economic contrasts while promoting awareness of global interdependence. The Bronze Medal went to TY students Shea Harper, Peter Walsh, Ali Zeini, and Jokubas Krulis for their engaging and thought-provoking project, "Should TikTok be banned in Ireland?" The group impressed the panel of judges with its balanced arguments and critical engagement with digital media policy.

In addition, all other Transition Year students who submitted projects to the competition will receive Certificates of Participation, recognising their effort, creativity, and research.

Speaking after the event, Principal Mr. Kelly said: “We are extremely proud of all our students who represented the school with such distinction. Their achievements reflect the hard work, curiosity, and critical thinking we encourage at Our Lady’s. A sincere thank you to Ms. Clarke for her guidance and dedication in supporting the students throughout the competition.”
