Congratulations to Transition Year students Evan Nidesh, Katie Scarlett Mc Caul, Joshua Hagan, and Ceola Finnegan on their success in achieving a gold medal at the Young Economist of the Year competition. The students were presented with their medal at a National Awards ceremony that was held at O' Reilly Hall UCD on Friday April 28th. The student’s success at this competition is a testimony to their hard work and commitment to the competition and a clear indication of the value of the Transition Year programme in Our Lady’s Secondary School by providing students with the opportunity to explore new subjects and develop their skills in areas outside of the traditional academic curriculum.
Their project was titled “Medicine Mayhem”, they researched the causes, effects and possible cures for the current medicine shortages, a great way to apply their economic concepts to a real life problem. The students and the Business Department of the school would like to thank local pharmacies for their support and cooperation.
Speaking on the achievement of the students, the Principal of Our Lady’s Secondary School Mr. Kelly commented "We are incredibly proud of Evan, Katie Scarlett, Joshua and Ceola for their outstanding performance at the Young Economist of the Year competition. Their dedication to their studies in Economics and their hard work in preparing for the competition has paid off, and we are delighted to see them receive gold medals for their efforts. We also acknowledge the wonderful support and guidance provided by their teacher Ms. Clarke’’.
