Thanks to Americold company for their very generous sponsorship of two basketball kits for our school basketball teams. Americold is one of the world’s largest publicly traded real estate investment trusts focused on temperature-controlled warehouses. The company is based locally in Lough Egish and Castleblayney and employs over 100 local people. The company has established strong links with Our Lady’s Secondary School in recent months with pathways created for career talks, site visits, Transition Year work experience, Leaving Certificate Applied work experience and potential job opportunities and career opportunities for Our Lady’s students. School Principal Mr. Kelly was delighted to welcome back past pupil and now Managing Director of Americold Thomas Hughes to make the presentation. Speaking at the school Mr. Kelly ‘ thanked Americold for their very generous sponsorship of the basketball kits and that the school is looking forward to developing a strong partnership with the company in the coming months that will be mutually beneficial for the school and Americold’. Mr. Kelly paid tribute to ‘the work of past pupil Thomas Hughes and Edward Ferguson in helping to develop strong links between the school and their company these past few months’ Mr. Kelly noted that ‘Thomas was a keen basketball player during his time at Our Lady’s winning Ulster titles in 1993, 1994 & 1996 as well as an All Ireland title in 1995. Indeed basketball in our school has gone from strength to strength in recent years with all boys and girls teams competing at A level.’
